When a dog bite rewrote a thief’s routine | Surat News
Surat: Thieves are usually midnight prowlers, striking under the cover of darkness. But a 35-year-old burglar in Surat chose to operate in broad daylight — driven not by fear of police, but of dogs after a painful bite during a night theft years ago.Udhna police have arrested Rajesh Tiwari alias Nanaku, who abandoned night-time thefts after being bitten by a dog during a burglary in 2016. The painful encounter proved enough to keep him off the streets after dark ever since.“After that incident, he developed a fear of dogs and decided to operate only during the day,” said police inspector SN Desai. Acting on technical and human surveillance, police traced Tiwari to Jolva village in Palsana taluka and arrested him.Investigations revealed that Tiwari was involved in at least five daytime burglaries between 2016 and 2026 across Pandesara, Kadodara, Udhna and Puna areas. Despite the higher risk of being spotted, he stuck to daylight operations to avoid another canine encounter. On Monday morning, Tiwari, along with aide Dipak Pandey, struck again—this time at Hetal Apartment in Udhna, where they allegedly broke into three flats. From one of the homes, belonging to Himanshu Rana (27), they decamped with gold and silver ornaments and an Apple mouse worth Rs 62,000.The police have also arrested Dipak Jain, a mobile shop owner, for allegedly buying the stolen valuables. Officials said Jain had been in contact with Tiwari since 2021. BOXVictim went for a movieComplainant Himanshu Rana, who works with a private mobile company in Mumbai, visits Surat on weekends.
