Chennai: Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) have announced traffic diversions in Mylapore in view of the annual Panguni Peruvizha at the Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, scheduled from March 23 to April 1.Traffic restrictions and diversions will be enforced around the temple and key surrounding roads, including R K Mutt Road, based on the crowd of devotees from the start of each event until its conclusion. The key events of the festival include the Adhikara Nandhi procession on March 25 at 6 am, the car festival on March 29 at 6am, and the Arubathumoovar festival on March 30 at 2.30pm.Police said that vehicle movement towards the temple will be restricted from several junctions around Mada Streets, R K Mutt Road, Luz junction, Kutchery Road, and adjoining interior roads to ensure smooth conduct of the festivities and public safety.According to a press release, the vehicles travelling from Royapettah High Road towards Mandaveli via R K Mutt Road will be diverted at Luz junction through Luz Church Road and a series of interior roads before rejoining the main route. Similarly, traffic from Adyar heading towards Luz will be rerouted at Mandaveli through alternative roads, including Venkata Krishna Road and Luz Church Road. Vehicles from Alwarpet towards Luz will also be diverted via Oliver Road and P S Sivasamy Salai.On festival days, MTC buses normally operating from the Mylapore tank terminus will temporarily function from Luz Church Road near the Amrutanjan junction.Parking restrictions will be in force on March 25, 29, and 30 on key stretches, including Sannathi Street, East and South Mada Streets, R K Mutt Road, and North Mada Street. Designated parking arrangements have been made at Luz Church Road, Venkatesa Agraharam Road under the MRTS flyover, and the Kapaleeswarar Temple ground near P S Higher Secondary School to accommodate vehicles.Police have urged motorists to follow diversions and plan their travel in advance, as large crowds are expected during the festival period.
