TN emerges leader in textile exports

Chennai: Tamil Nadu has emerged as the national leader in textile exports, recording shipments worth $7,997.17 million in 2024-25, accounting for 21.84% of India’s total textile exports, said a statement from the Tamil Nadu govt citing data released by the National Import Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade (NIRYAT).The statement said India’s overall textile exports stood at $36,610 million during 2024 – 25. Tamil Nadu retained a clear lead over Gujarat, which registered exports of $5,646.01 million, followed by Maharashtra with $3,831.28 million, it said adding that Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal occupied subsequent positions in the export rankings. The data also pointed to steady growth in Tamil Nadu’s textile sector over the past four years. Export value from the state rose from $6,193.39 million in 2020-21 to the current level, marking an increase of $1,803.78 million, which is close to 29%, the statement said.
