Ranveer Singh ready to apologise in Chavundi Daiva case: Counsel

Bengaluru: Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has agreed to file an affidavit tendering apology for his comment on Chavundi daiva and visit the temple of the deity, his counsel told the Karnataka high court. The submission was made Tuesday during the hearing of Ranveer’s petition seeking to quash an FIR over alleged mimicking and mocking of the divine character linked to the film Kantara Chapter 1.The controversy stems from comments made at an awards ceremony in Goa last year, where the actor allegedly referred to ‘Chavundi Daiva’—a revered deity in coastal Karnataka.Justice M Nagaprasanna indicated that a sincere apology along with corrective steps from the petitioner would help resolve the issue, and adjourned the matter to April 10 for further hearing.High Grounds police had registered the case following a complaint from HBR Layout resident Prashant Methal. In his petition, Ranveer claimed that police registered the FIR without proper inquiry. According to him, the Jan 23 order of the magistrate’s court to police to register the FIR also suffered from non-application of mind.According to him, the entire complaint fails to disclose the commission of any offence at his instance. Ranveer has stated that he already tendered an unconditional apology and added that he respects all cultures, traditions and communities and has no intention to spread hatred.
