NU academic calendar revised but mum on summer exam start | Nagpur News
Nagpur: The Nagpur University (NU) has issued a corrigendum partially revising the academic calendar for the 2025-26 session, after concerns were raised by Senate member Manmohan Bajpai over lack of clarity on extension of the academic session and summer vacation schedule. The corrigendum follows a decision taken by the Academic Council in its meeting held on March 7. It is silent on crucial points such as the start of summer exams, start of the second term, and beginning of the new academic session. As per the revised schedule, the second term for even semesters and annual pattern courses, “which commenced on Nov 10, 2025”, will now conclude on April 30, 2026. This marks an extension of 15 days from the earlier end date of April 15, 2026. Consequently, the summer vacation has been rescheduled from May 1 to June 15. It is not clear what the university administration plans to achieve through these 15 days, senate members asked. The academic calendar mentions March 9 and 10 as start dates for summer exams. But the NU is yet to announce the summer exam timetable while it implies from corrigendum that the exam started. In fact, results of nearly 60% of winter 2025 exams are still pending and there is still no word from NU administration on completing results.Senate members and faculty members from affiliated colleges have questioned the NU move, starting with the nomenclature ‘Shudhipatra’ or corrigendum. They said the NU could have called it academic calendar revision and comprehensively rescheduled it.“The academic calendar was passed by the Academic Council, a statutory body. Does it mean the council made a mistake which is being corrected?” they asked. They also said, as the document is silent on the summer exam date, does it mean the original schedule is being followed. “The second term never started from Nov 10 as delayed winter exams continued till Feb end. This is a major blunder,” they said.Bajpai said he asked for a new notification on the academic schedule. “At least summer exam start dates should have been mentioned. However, how are students going to plan their future?” he said.BOXBajpai seeks task force to tackle exam, result delaysSenate member Manmohan Bajpai has urged the university administration to constitute a dedicated task force to address delays in examinations and declaration of results that have disrupted the academic session. He highlighted that winter examination results are still pending, while supplementary exams, their results, and upcoming summer exams remain lined up, making it difficult to smoothly commence the new session.Bajpai warned that final-year students would be the worst affected, as delays could impact their competitive exams and admission timelines. He has called for forming a team of experienced principals, teachers, officers and staff to work on a “war footing” and ensure timely decisions, cautioning against over-reliance on software systems. He also expressed willingness to participate in discussions to help find a practical solution.
