Man robs beggars, hits youth, stabs another when stopped | Kolkata News



Kolkata: Two youths were injured — one of them stabbed with a chopper — after they tried to protest against a local criminal stealing money from beggars in Tiljala. The accused first assaulted the main protester before returning to the spot seven hours later with a weapon to threaten and attack residents, leaving another person injured. The accused, identified as Md Bilal of Topsia 1st Lane, was named in a complaint lodged by Md Afzal Hossain, a resident of Rai Charan Ghosh Lane, one of the victims.The incident allegedly began around 3 pm on Wednesday at 26, Rai Charan Ghosh Lane. The stabbing took place around 10 pm. Hossain alleged Bilal was stealing money from beggars. “When I stopped him from stealing, Bilal abused and hit me in the face. He then fled.” According to the complaint, Bilal returned about 10 pm and again began abusing Hossain. “He said he would shoot me and anyone who tried to stop him,” Hossain said.A neighbour, SK Azad stepped in and asked Bilal not to create nuisance when Bilal allegedly abused Azad. “Bilal charged at Azad and me with a stick. He then took out a chopper and stabbed Azad. He missed me by a whisker,” Hossain said.Azad was taken to hospital with leg injuries, cops said. Cops have registered a case and have started a probe.
