Kolkata: Kolkata Police issued a public warning on Saturday against handing over bank accounts to cyber fraudsters, following the arrest of seven individuals from the city in the past two months by cops from other states for being involved in cyber crimes. In all these seven cases, the account owners were not directly associated with frauds. However, they were enjoying a commission for allowing cyber criminals to access their bank accounts.The suspects, apprehended in coordinated operations across states, including Punjab, Maharashtra and Delhi,rented out their personal bank accounts to scam networks for small kickbacks—Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 per account, typically called “mule accounts” in police parlance.
