Nagpur: A 31-year-old woman accused her husband and in-laws of prolonged physical and mental harassment over dowry demands, leading to their arrest by Gittikhadan police. According to the complaint filed by Sonali Lal, a resident of Ranchi and currently staying in Nagpur, she married Ashish Lal on May 30, 2023. Soon after the marriage, she was subjected to harassment by her husband and his family members, the complaint stated.Police officials said that based on her complaint, a case has been registered against her husband, mother-in-law Usha Lal (55), father-in-law Ajay Lal (60), and sister-in-law Swati Lal (32), all native of Morabadi in Ranchi, Jharkhand, under relevant sections pertaining to dowry harassment and cruelty. In her complaint, the woman alleged that between May 2023 and November 2025, the accused taunted and abused her for bringing insufficient dowry despite her family having spent around 90 lakh on the wedding. She further alleged that the family demanded an additional 44 lakh cash along with a car, and subjected her to both mental and physical torture when the demands were not met.The woman alleged the accused also verbally abused her parents. She was forced to leave her matrimonial home after being told to arrange the amount or face consequences, the complaint stated. Probe is underway to verify the allegations.
