EC rolls out awareness camps for new voters | Kolkata News
Kolkata: The Election Commission officials organised an awareness programme for new voters at Women’s Christian College Kolkata on Tuesday. The event, called SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation), brought together election officials, students, and grassroot level workers under one platform. Members of Electoral Literacy Clubs, district awardees, and BLOs took part in the event. Students from Lady Brabourne College, Charuchandra College, and Calcutta University attended the session. The winners of district-level competitions linked to National Voters’ Day 2026 were awarded at the event. Arindam Niyogi, additional chief electoral officer, said, “Under this initiative, the primary focus is on increasing turnout in urban centres like Kolkata and Howrah, specifically targeting young voters within the age group of 18-19.“Many students said that programmes like SVEEP not only inform them about their electoral rights but also encourage them to become responsible voters.
