Drug trafficking racket busted in Amravati, mastermind arrested | Nagpur News

Amravati: In a major crack down on drug trafficking ring, the Amravati city police arrested three accused, including the mastermind from Mumbai, and seized 78 grams of Mephedrone (MD) powder and three mobile phones, total worth Rs 12 lakh, on Saturday. So far, the police have seized 2.2 kg MD powder, worth approximately Rs3.3 crore in its anit-drug operation.Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team, led by inspector Sandeep Chavan, laid a trap and arrested Azim Asad Shekh (36) and Shiekh Sameer Shiekh Amim (25) on Lal Khadi to Navsari Ring Road. During questioning, Azim revealed he had procured the contraband from Rajasthan-based suppliers, Mangilal and Birada Ram alias Birju Sen. The mastermind, Satyam Ganesh Sonavane, was arrested from Kurla, Mumbai, and handed over to Badnera police station. The police are now focusing on confiscating the assets acquired through drug trafficking and are considering action under MCOCA or MPDA against the accused.The operation was carried out under the guidance of commissioner of police Rakesh Ola, DCP Ganesh Shinde, and Shyam Ghuge. On Monday, the accused were sent to magisterial custody remand for 15 days.
