Bengaluru: Gas supply agencies cannot compel consumers to pay extra for doorstep delivery of LPG cylinders, Karnataka govt has clarified, urging the public to report incidents of overcharging.K H Muniyappa, the minister for food, civil supplies, consumer affairs and legal metrology, told the legislative council that oil companies have informed the state govt that the retail selling price of LPG includes delivery charge and that there is no provision to levy any additional fee for delivery. Replying to MLC Dr Dhananjay Sarji on complaints of consumers being fleeced in the name of cylinder delivery, the minister said instances have been reported where customers are forced to pay Rs 50 to Rs 100 extra at the time of delivery. Like other cities, demand for payment of doorstep delivery is rampant and in high-rise apartments, consumers are often made to pay a higher amount for doorstep service. The minister further clarified that if the department receives complaints regarding illegal collection of delivery charges, action will be initiated under the Marketing Discipline Guidelines 2022.
