Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Friday arrested a 25-year-old man, accused of murdering his 22-year-old sister two months ago in a case of honour killing in the Narkeldanga area. Sanjit Shaw reportedly strangled Pushpa Kumari to death.After his arrest, Shaw told police back home at Nalanda in Bihar, Pushpa was involved in a relationship with his friend. The family opposed the relationship and sent her off to Kolkata to live with her father, who worked here. But, Shaw claimed, Pushpa kept trying to contact her boyfriend, an act “that he could not accept”. He claimed he chose “to murder her to protect the family’s honour”. Police said after killing his sister, Shaw fled to multiple cities, including Mumbai, over the past few weeks to evade arrest.The victim, Pushpa Kumari, was found unconscious on her bed at their home in Narkeldanga’s Shibtala Lane in Jan. She was taken to hospital, where doctors declared her dead and a post-mortem revealed she was strangled to death.
