Ahmedabad: Inquiry ordered after spat between cop-YouTuber in police station | Ahmedabad News
Ahmedabad: A confrontation between a YouTuber and a police sub-inspector at the Bopal police station campus on Thursday night triggered a public controversy after a video of the exchange went viral on social media. The incident began around 11pm, when night deployment procedures were underway at the station. The officials noticed a man enter the campus and sit on the bonnet of a parked vehicle, accompanied by five to six others who stood nearby.A constable on duty reportedly politely asked him to refrain from sitting there, citing discipline and security protocols on the station premises. Police said the man responded rudely and behaved aggressively. A police sub-inspector then stepped in to address the situation. During the exchange, officials alleged, the man made improper allegations about the constable’s tone and attempted to pressure officers by falsely claiming to be a journalist. Police further alleged that he recorded the encounter on his mobile and later uploaded only selected and edited portions to social media, aiming to create a misleading impression of the department and gain cheap publicity. The viral video, however, shows the sub-inspector using abusive language towards the YouTuber and asserting that it was his police station. Superintendent of police, Ahmedabad Rural, Om Prakash Jat acknowledged the video but said it presented only one side of the events. He noted that the YouTuber, who had come to the station following a dispute with a woman, was sitting on the bonnet of a car. “It is not the way one should sit when one is in a police station,” Jat said, adding that an inquiry into the incident was underway and action would be taken if warranted. The youth offered a different version to multiple media outlets. He said he had recently undergone hip surgery and was unable to stand for extended periods, which led him to sit on the bonnet of his own car while waiting outside the station with friends after visiting in connection with a complaint. He alleged that a plainclothes policeman initially spoke to him harshly and that a senior officer then escalated the situation by using abusive language, calling him derogatory names, and threatening to record the names of his friends and have them jailed. The youth later submitted a written complaint to the district police chief. Police confirmed that the original dispute that brought the group to the station was later settled between both parties.
