GDMA writes to petroleum minister, seeks 80% gas supply

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Dyestuffs Manufacturers’ Association has written to Union petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri, seeking urgent intervention over reduced gas supply to industrial units in Ahmedabad and nearby areas. In its letter, the association alleged non-compliance with the ministry of petroleum and natural gas order dated March 9, which directed that industrial customers should receive 80% of their average gas consumption of the last six months. The association said around 900 MSME units dependent on piped natural gas are currently receiving only 40% supply, affecting production and increasing operational stress. It also raised concerns over higher charges beyond the curtailed quantity and opposed the recent move from fortnightly to daily billing, calling it burdensome for small industries. The body urged the ministry to ensure immediate implementation of the 80% supply norm by Adani Total Gas Ltd and clarification from GAIL. “MSME industries that shifted to clean fuel should not suffer due to supply uncertainty,” association president Dipak Patel wrote in his letter to the minister.
