Nagpur: With the supply of commercial LPG cylinders from govt-run oil companies nearly coming to a halt, two prominent private firms have stepped in to fill the gap in the city—but at significantly higher prices. While one company said it is charging ₹300 more, another claimed it has been forced to double prices due to increased procurement costs.Hoteliers, however, disputed these claims, alleging that private suppliers have sharply inflated rates. Sanju Batase (Kumbhare), who runs a popular Saoji restaurant in Trimurti Nagar, said he has been receiving limited supplies from private vendors. “The 21kg cylinder that used to cost around ₹1,800 is now priced at nearly ₹5,000,” he said.Another hotelier from Itwari said he recently purchased a cylinder for ₹5,500. “The high prices are making it difficult to sustain operations, but at least private agencies are providing some supply. Without LPG, it is impossible to run kitchens entirely on alternative fuels,” he said.Meanwhile, a company official said a 19.5kg commercial cylinder, earlier priced at ₹2,700, now costs ₹3,000, with variations depending on transportation costs.Another private supplier said the price of LPG has risen from around ₹100 per kg to ₹200 per kg due to higher procurement and operational costs. This pushed the cost of a 21kg cylinder to approximately ₹4,200.For over two weeks, supply from Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum has remained severely restricted, forcing many establishments to scale down menus, ration fuel use, and even raise food prices. Several restaurants and eateries are now dependent on costlier private supplies.
