Woman, 68, beaten to death by daughter, spouse & grandson over alms money

Bengaluru: A 68-year-old woman was killed by her daughter, son-in-law and her grandson following a dispute over money in Neelasandra Sunday.The deceased, Shakira, was a resident of RK Garden, Neelasandra. She was found dead with multiple injuries on her head, forehead and legs. Ashok Nagar police have arrested the accused—Mohammed Hussain alias Setuba, 22, his mother Reshma Banu and his father Fayaz Ahmed. They are in judicial custody now.Police said Shakira used to beg for alms near Masjid-E-Umar Farooq in Neelasandra. According to a complaint filed by her son Imran, he received a call from a neighbour around 2pm informing him that his mother had been killed.On March 21, Shakira had collected a few thousand rupees from devotees visiting the masjid during Ramzan. Around midnight the following day, the accused — her son-in-law Fayaz, daughter Reshma, and grandson Hussain — allegedly went to her house and demanded money. When she refused, an argument broke out, which escalated into an assault.Police said during the attack, Hussain allegedly struck Shakira on the head with a brick, killing her. The trio fled the scene after the incident.Following a tip-off from the public, Hoysala police tracked down and arrested the accused in Neelasandra within two hours.
