42-day rail block on Knp–Lko route to disrupt train ops | Kanpur News
Kanpur: Scores of passengers are expected to face inconvenience as Northern Railway has announced a 42-day mega traffic and power block on the Kanpur–Kanpur bridge left bank section from Apr 2 to May 13, for major bridge rehabilitation work.According to officials, the block will be imposed daily for eight hours to facilitate the replacement of steel troughs with H-beam sleepers on bridge number 110 of the down line. The work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rail infrastructure and ensure long-term operational safety.The prolonged block will lead to widespread changes in train operations. Several MEMU and passenger trains operating between Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, Rae Bareli, Sitapur and Kasganj will remain cancelled throughout the period. In addition, multiple mail, express and superfast trains will be short-terminated, rescheduled or regulated.Key long-distance services, including the New Delhi–Lucknow Shatabdi Express and Anand Vihar–Ayodhya Cantonment Vande Bharat Express, will be diverted via Moradabad, bypassing Kanpur and other regular stations. A number of trains to eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the Northeast will also operate on alternative routes, skipping several intermediate halts.Railway authorities have advised passengers to check updated train schedules through official railway enquiry systems before planning their journeys, as the large-scale block is expected to affect daily commuters as well as long-distance travellers.
