‘Indiscriminate’ transfers will stall devpt work, warns citizens’ group | Kolkata News
Kolkata: A day after CM Mamata Banerjee said Bengal was under “unofficial President’s Rule”, the city’s intellectuals and social workers said the Election Commission‘s “indiscriminate transfers” will stall development projects in the state.Speaking at a presser organised by citizens’ initiative Desh Banchao Gana Manch, poet Joy Goswami said schemes such as Swasthya Sathi, Khadya Sathi and Lakshmir Bhandar have thousands of beneficiaries and need experienced govt officers to run.“The Centre has transferred some of these officers to other states and these projects have hit a roadblock,” he said. Goswami accused the Centre of selectively picking officers to put these schemes in trouble.Economist Abhirup Sarkar said he was apprehensive of development projects getting stalled due to frequent transfers. “Those who depend on these projects will face trouble,” he said.“Almost 85% people avail benefits of these schemes and Trinamool gets votes from around 45% people. This shows that people across society will get benefits from these schemes,” Sarkar added.Ananya Chakraborty, adviser to the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, said, “Work in the public distribution system been stalled. The administration is becoming defunct. It seems the EC is working with malicious intent,” Chakraborty added.
