Kanpur: Police in Unnao district have arrested a truck driver’s wife and two alleged contract killers for the murder of her husband in Chamrauli village, officials said. The woman, identified as Sukhrani, was sent to jail along with her two-year-old son after being produced in court.The victim, Shrikant alias Jagli, 35, a resident of Chamrauli village under Ajgain Kotwali, was found dead in a wheat field on March 19. His hands were tied behind his back with a saree. A post-mortem examination found a broken rib, while no external injury marks were seen on the body. Following the recovery of the body, Shrikant’s mother, Sundara, lodged an FIR against Sukhrani and unidentified persons.Ajgain Kotwali inspector Suresh Singh said the case was cracked after police examined the call detail record of Sukhrani’s phone and questioned her. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to plotting the murder. Police said she told them that she had married Shrikant in a love marriage and the couple had a child, but later he became suspicious of her and frequently assaulted her and the child while under the influence of intoxicants.Police said Sukhrani also alleged that Shrikant was involved with another woman in the village and often accused her of infidelity. Investigators said she then conspired to have him killed and offered Rs 40,000 to Ankit Yadav of Chitauli village under Makhi police station and Mohit Singh of Sadhira village under Ajgain. According to police, on the night of March 17, Sukhrani allegedly lured Shrikant to a field owned by Rajesh Yadav, where Ankit and Mohit were waiting. The two allegedly overpowered him, tied his hands with a saree and beat him to death before dumping the body in the field.Police arrested Ankit and Mohit near Chamrauli bazaar on Saturday and recovered mobile phones and Rs 10,950 from the remaining contract amount. All three were booked on charges including murder and concealment of evidence.
