Major Jakate served till his last breath: Gadkari | Nagpur News



Nagpur: The late Major Hemant Jakate dedicated his entire life to service of nation and society. He continued his commitment to social causes even after retiring from Army, said Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday while paying his tributes at a memorial service organised at an auditorium on Wardha Road.“He lived a life rooted in social responsibility, sensitivity and commitment, and remained devoted to serving society till his last breath,” Gadkari said.“Jakate and his wife Sulabha shared a close bond with my family. They were in regular contact with my mother. The couple donated 7.5 lakh to a diagnostic centre established in my mother’s name for providing services to underprivileged patients,” he said.The city MP emphasised that Jakate’s life was not driven by pursuit of recognition or status but by a desire to make a difference. “He worked selflessly, without expecting fame or position. True tribute to him would be to draw inspiration from his life and create more individuals committed to such values,” he said. Several persons from social, cultural and defence backgrounds shared their memories and experiences of working with Jakate. Among those present were Brig Sunil Gavpande, Flight Lt Shivali Deshpande, Dr Bhavana Lad, Amit Thatte, Narendra Satija and Dr Sagar Khadiwala. They recalled Jakate’s contributions across multiple spheres, including social welfare and community initiatives. Deshpande spoke about his support for Prahar Samaj Jagruti Sanstha and other socio-cultural organisations. Representatives from Panchavati Old Age Home remembered his association and contributions, describing Jakate as an individual deeply connected to grass roots causes.
