Plan detour routes before Metro & elevated road works start: Shirur MLA | Pune News

Pune: Shirur assembly constituency MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke has urged the Metro authorities, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the traffic police to develop a detailed transportation plan and alternative road links in Wagholi, Kharadi and along Ahilyanagar highway before the actual work of the Metro line and elevated road is launched.Katke said it would prevent inconvenience to daily commuters on Nagar road.The proposed elevated six-lane road will begin from Vimannagar chowk towards Wagholi and continue till Shirur covering over 54 km. Additionally, the Metro line, sanctioned till Wagholi as of now, will pass over it. The Maha Metro has initiated a tendering process to appoint an agency to construct the elevated stretch and Metro line from Ramwadi to Wagholi. The state-run MSIDC will construct the remaining part of the road from Wagholi to Shirur.On Friday, Katke held an inspection of the entire route along with officials of the MahaMetro, the PMC and the traffic police. He told the officials present to take necessary steps to develop alternative road links and clear obstacles from the existing roads for free flow of vehicles. He said a detailed transportation plan should be tabled at the earliest.The six-lane Pune-Shirur elevated road is an ambitious project for the state and Centre. During a recent visit to the city, Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari had said that work on an elevated road to Shirur may begin soon.Manwhile, daily commuters on the Nagar road said they want at least two lanes to be kept open for vehicles. Kharadi resident Ashish Jadhav said, “It is good that officials and politicians are checking the area before the actual work begins. We expect a positive outcome. The authorities must ensure that agencies executing the work leave part of carriageways free for vehicles.”
