46 areas in Ahmedabad declared hotspots for next three days; temps here to be above normal | Ahmedabad News
Ahmedabad: The civic health department on Friday declared 46 areas in the city as hotspots for the next three days. These areas are expected to record higher temperatures compared to the average. Among them, seven are in the city’s west and the rest 39 are in the east.A release by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s health department said, “In collaboration with Satelio Labs, a space-tech startup that includes former Isro scientists, AMC is forecasting heat hotspots in the city. As a significant step towards enhancing climate resilience and public health safety, AMC has formed a strategic partnership with Satelio Labs, which is developing a high-resolution, multiband thermal intelligence satellite constellation. The aim of this collaboration is to identify, monitor, and predict urban heat hotspots in the city, allowing for proactive measures to reduce heat stress and mitigate risks such as heatstroke and urban heat islands.”The release further added that “the identification of heat hotspots will be based on land surface temperature (LST) data obtained from satellites. Subsequently, advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms will be used to predict daily air temperatures with a spatial resolution of 30-30m. This forecast will be available three days in advance and may have an accuracy variance of 2-3°C. This will help identify hotspot areas in the city over the next three days compared to other areas.”The hotspots include Solana Babylon Club Road, HB Kapadia New High School in Chandkheda, Sabarmati railway station, Ranip bus depot, Sabarmati D Cabin, and Sanathal Crossroads. East Zone has 17 hotspots, North has eight, South Zone has 14, the North-West has one, West Zone has four and the South-Western Zone has two hotspots. No hotspots have been declared for the Central Zone.
