Jobless man kills wife, son, ends life after row | Kolkata News
Howrah: A 42-year-old unemployed man killed his wife and elder son before ending his life at Banitala under Uluberia police station on Friday. Pradip Mukherjee also attacked his younger son before consuming poison. The surviving son has been admitted to Uluberia Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.Police said Pradip used to work for a marble and tiles supply company in Chennai before losing his job a year ago. Since then he has been struggling to find a new job. His mother, Krishna, told police that Pradip occasionally worked as a casual labourer in Kolkata, but the wages were inconsistent. He was in severe financial hardship in recent times.On Thursday night, there was a major family dispute after which he left home without eating. He returned home drunk on Friday morning and attacked his wife Aparna, 46, and elder son Pranab, 18, with a chopper. His younger son Aabir, 14, also suffered critical injuries.According to neighbours, Pradip had forcibly sold his wife’s jewellery to buy alcohol and lottery tickets. A senior officer of Howrah Rural police stated that Pradip’s mother, Krishna, has been detained for questioning. Police said Aparna’s parents’ home was in Rajapur, Uluberia, and the couple’s only daughter is married to a local man.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
