65 women honoured at Kacharakanahalli event on Women’s Day | Bengaluru News
A community welfare programme organised at Kacharakanahalli in Ward No. 30 marked International Women’s Day with a series of initiatives recognising local women and supporting residents. The event was hosted by social activist Shobha JP Reddy, who has been involved in social work in the area for more than 15 years. As part of the celebrations, 65 women from diverse walks of life were honoured for their contributions to the community. The awardees included BBMP sanitation workers, government employees, teachers, entrepreneurs, social workers and elderly residents who have played a role in shaping the locality through years of service. Nearly 500 nominations were received for the recognition, from which the final list of awardees was selected. The honours were presented by chief guests — Kannada actors Shravya Rao and Chaithra Gopal — along with senior advocate Rangaramu. The guests applauded the women for their resilience and commitment to their work and encouraged them to continue contributing to society. Alongside the felicitation ceremony, several welfare initiatives were carried out during the programme. Around 500 sarees were distributed to women from the neighbourhood, and free non-vegetarian meals were served to more than 500 residents, turning the event into a community gathering. Meritorious students from the area were also recognised and honoured for their academic achievements. A free medical camp organised by RK Hospital offered basic health check-ups for residents. Doctors conducted blood pressure and oxygen level tests and distributed medicines, benefiting many elderly and underprivileged members of the community. The programme was organised as a social initiative in remembrance of family elders K. L. Kamala, Lakshmaiah Reddy, Gowramma, Babu Reddy and Saraswathamma, whose values, organisers said, continue to inspire service and community welfare in the area.
