In 2025, over 3k pre-cancer cases identified | Ahmedabad News
Gandhinagar: On the eve of World Oral Health Day, observed on March 20, the state govt said that Ahmedabad-based Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) identified 3,023 pre-cancer cases in 2025 during its screening programme.An official statement said that the hospital was able to detect a higher number of pre-cancer cases in 2025 as compared to 2,617 cases in 2024. Early detection of this disease has freed thousands of families from the fear of cancer and reduced the surgical burden on the state’s cancer institutions, the statement added. GDCH launched a campaign during ‘World Oral Health Month’ (March 20 to April 20, 2025), during which 282 dentists screened 12,915 people across 33 districts. The campaign included 265 health talks and two walkathons, and anti-tobacco pledges were taken at 94 locations, the statement added. GDCH’s regular OPD service statistics show increased awareness about oral health among people. From Jan to Dec 2025, 2,24,130 patients availed dental OPD services. In Jan 17,788 patients and 17,564 in Feb this year were treated, the statement said.
