KOLKATA: A middle-aged man allegedly died after being trapped inside a lift at a state-run hospital in north Kolkata on Friday, officials said.The man, in his early 40s, was taken to the hospital’s emergency unit bleeding from his nose, a senior hospital official added.According to the deceased’s family, who live in the Dum Dum area, he had brought his four-year-old son for treatment at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.The family alleged that he became stuck in the lift along with his wife at the trauma care unit when the elevator suddenly stopped working.They also claimed that there was no lift operator present at the time of the incident.“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the death,” the official said.The hospital’s patient welfare committee chairman Atin Ghosh, who is also the deputy mayor of Kolkata, admitted that there may have been some lapses owing to which the “unfortunate incident” took place.The police will take action in line with legal procedures, Ghosh said.(With agency inputs)
