3 arrested for rape, murder of 11-year-old girl in Bidhnu | Kanpur News
Kanpur: Main suspect in a rape and murder case of a minor was arrested after he was injured in an encounter in Bidhnu area, late Wednesday night. A country-made pistol and cartridges were seized from the accused, Sunny. Police registered the case at Bidhnu police station as Case No. 73/2026 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act on Mar 18.Initially, two suspects, Kamal (22) and Ashish (32), both from Gram Madhaupur Katherua, were apprehended near Gram Madhaupur turn on Wednesday. Following their interrogation, police launched search for the third suspect, Sunny, 26, son of Ganesh Shankar. At about 11:20 pm, he was spotted moving suspiciously near the canal bridge in Bidhnu area. When police surrounded the area, Sunny fired at them and was injured in retaliatory firing by police.Sunny was taken into custody and sent to Community Health Centre Bidhnu for treatment. A .315 bore countrymade pistol, two live cartridges, two empty shells, and one misfired cartridge were seized from him.Case No. 76/2026 was filed under various sections of BNS and Arms Act at Bidhnu police station.Police commissioner of Raghubir Lal said legal action is being taken against all three suspects, who have been presented in court and sent to jail and added that state police maintain zero-tolerance policy for such heinous crimes.Body of an 11-year-old girl was found on Tuesday, and her body was found buried. Postmortem report revealed the girl was raped and then strangled to death. Injuries and scratch marks were found on the body.The girl’s father said his daughter, a student of Class V, took goats for grazing with her elder sister on Monday afternoon. His elder daughter returned home but the younger girl went missing, he said.After searching everywhere, the family informed Bidhnu police station at 7 pm. Bidhnu station in charge Tej Bahadur Singh searched for the girl in the village and surrounding fields. On Tuesday morning, freshly dug soil was noticed in a field about 500 metres from the house. On digging the spot, the girl’s body was found.
