10-foot-long marsh crocodile rescued from IIT-Bombay campus

Mumbai: In a joint rescue operation by RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) and Mumbai forest department, a 10-foot-long marsh crocodile was rescued from the IIT-Bombay campus in Powai early Monday morning. The IIT-B campus security staff immediately reported to the forest department control room who soon reached the spot and safely rescued the reptile. It is being medically examined, and will be released back to its natural habitat after being declared fit. A wildlife activist said, “There have been a few similar incidents in the past. This shows the healthy marine biodiversity of Powai lake.” Nature lovers said that due to construction all around the lake, there are hardly any basking spots or nesting sites available for the crocodiles.
